Counterpain Rub Pain Relief Balm Ointment

Use

Counterpainis used to treat mild pain or pain in muscles/joints (eg, arthritis, back pain, sprains). Menthol and methyl salicylate are known as irritants. They work by feeling cool on the skin and then warming up on touch. These emotions on the skin keep the muscles, joints and tendons from feeling deeper pain.

Some products may not be used on children under the age of 12 without the advice of a doctor. Please check the label carefully before use by children aged 2 to 12 years. Do not use on children under 2 years.

How to use Counterpain Rub Pain Balm Ointment

Follow all instructions on the product packaging. If you do not know this information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

This medicine is used only for the skin. Do not apply near eyes, mouth, nose or genitals. Also, be careful not to touch these areas while holding medicine. If you take the medicine in those areas, wash it off with plenty of water. Wash your hands thoroughly before inserting contact lenses.

If using lotion, spray or foam, shake the bottle well before use.

Apply a thin layer of the drug to the affected area no more than 3 to 4 times a day. Gently rub completely. Do not apply this medicine to injured or inflamed skin (cuts, scratches, sunburn, etc.). Do not bandage or tightly connect the affected area. Doing so may increase the risk of side effects. The area can be covered loosely to protect your clothing. Ask your pharmacist for details.

Fever may increase the risk of side effects. Do not use this drug immediately before, during, or immediately after activities that raise skin temperature (eg, bathing in hot water, swimming, sunbathing, strenuous exercise), or in warm, moist weather. Wait for the skin to cool before applying the drug. Do not use sun lamps/tanning beds, hot water bottles, or heating pads on the treatment area.

This product is available with different strengths and different ingredients, but with similar product names. Please read the label carefully and make sure you have the right product. Ask your pharmacist if you have any questions.
